The Power of Wonder

Every Monday thru Thursday Kalel and I watch the Wonder Years. It is so nice that they have reruns of a show that I watched as a young person and now can bond and talk about with him. Kal has been able to see storylines that reflect realistic situations of school and how uncomfortable those situations were for Kevin Arnold. He relates to him as a young boy and has commented several times on how Kevin did something so stupid that Kal wouldnt do that and if Kevin had done something differently how the outcome would maybe have been. This has actually become one of Kal's favorite shows and he even sometimes watches Who's the Boss which is now shown on right before WY. He likes the shows made back them alittle more then the ones they show now (mostly not reality-reality).

Then after Wonder Years is over, just about every night they show the Flower Power infomercial. I love watching infomercials for music. I just like to listen to snippets of the songs. Well, one night Tori and Kal were both watching with me and they show clips of the 60's and Woodstock. So, this lead to a question of that time and how it was and the peace protests vs. the Vietnam war and the draft that they had in effect. Of course, this was right around the time that you could hear some suggestions of reenstating the draft. So, this lead to more conversation. They had questions of everything. Then, in questioning my mother, they found out that the friends that she worked in NYC with went to Woodstock. How cool is that for them! Now, the kids are hooked on Flower Power, Victoria, who was very political and antiwar is even more so now that she learned about the past histories and Kalel and her know more songs than ever. I can honestly say that I didnt learn about these things at their age nor was I then or am I now political. It is nice that they have enough information to form their own opinions on things.
